HOW DO YOU PRESERVE THE VIDEO FILES?
I suggest maintaining your video files in multiple locations with your other important backups, and sharing them with family.Do to the size of these files; it MAY not be practical to keep them on your primary computer.You can purchase external hard drives very suitable for large volume storage and very inexpensive. I have 350 GB drives for your purchase for $60 each.
WHY DO THIS? I'll be turning 56 this year. As I work with these old movies, I realize that I am part of a unique transition generation. I have lots of personal experience with movie film, video tape, and digital mediums. My children, now bumping their 30's, know nothing about movie film. Their children of the next generation will know nothing about video tape. It's up to my generation to ensure the movie film and video treasures that have carried us from the 30's to the 80's, make the leap to 2020. The day is quickly approaching where the equipment to do so won't be available any more.
